Among Others

Among Others - Jo Walton

It's difficult to write a review of this book because I just can't seem to figure out exactly how I feel about it. I enjoyed the journal style, the short chapters, and the conversational tone - all those things kept me turning pages. I also liked Mor's voice, and I related to her strongly even if I didn't catch all the references to classic sci-fi (there are large gaps in my sci-fi reading). This very much felt like going back in time and reading a journal I could have kept. Which brings me to my troubles with it. The end snuck up out of nowhere, and I'm not sure how I feel about it. And most troubling of all, at least for me, is that even after the end I cannot decide if any of it is real or if it is just Mor's vibrant imagination. Is she a reliable narrator? I don't know. But she is an amusing one. I'll have to give this one more thought.
