Wytches is a delightfully creepy horror graphic novel that relies more on psychology than flashy thrills. There are themes of trauma and anxiety woven throughout a story rooted in the complexities of family and loss. If you're looking for simplistic storytelling you're going to be left behind in the dust - while there are plenty of creepy crawlies and monsters, people take front and center. There is also liberal use of time jumps, mirroring past scenes with present action. The art is beautiful, and the hand painted panels add to a sense of magical realism and southern flavor. All in all it's a surprisingly intricate and beautiful package, perfect for a dark night home alone.
