iZombie #1: Dead to the World
Playful, and bursting with color, this collection has little in common with the TV adaptation other than basic concepts and the same humorous flare. Gwen the zombie is a gravedigger with a bubbly 60s ghost and a were-terrier for bestfriends. Together they pass time at the local diner, and if they feel sleuthy, maybe try and find closure for the people who's brains Gwen has recently devoured. It reminded me of early seasons of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, with the same campy feel. The illustrations are vibrant and nostalgic of thematically lighter comics, which adds to the fun feel of this collection. If you are looking for dark, grim, or a companion to the TV show then you might be better off giving this book a miss. However, if you are looking for something quirky and bright with a supernatural twist then don't hesitate to dig up a copy for consumption.
