Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore
If I had to pick one word to describe this book it would probably be Charming. I have to admit that part of my enjoyment was likely due to the fact that I currently work as the night clerk in a somewhat eccentric new/used indie bookstore. The heart of this story revolves around the tension between older analog ways of doing things (print books, model making, etc.) versus newer technologies (ebooks, digital effects, etc.). I won't spoil the end and tell you what conclusions were drawn, but I will say that I was satisfied and I enjoyed the journey. My only real complaint was that this book suffers a bit from what I call young-white-guy syndrome where the world view is very concerned with how hip it is. (Not sure how else to describe the phenomenon.) Overall, it was a fun read.
